IN KYIV AN EXHIBITION OF IVAN MARCHUK'S WORKS 'LOVE YOUR UKRAINE' FROM THE CREATIVE CYCLE 'SHEVCHENKIANA' IS TAKING PLACE

28.11.2023

On November 3, 2023, the exhibition of the Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk titled "Love Your Ukraine" opened at the National Museum "Kyiv Picture Gallery." The exhibition is held under the patronage of the President of Ukraine and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. The organizer of the exhibition is the Center for Contemporary Art "Museum of Ivan Marchuk."

The exhibition features one of the 15 creative cycles "Shevchenkiana" created by the artist during seventy years of his artistic career. For this he was awarded the National Taras Shevchenko Prize in 1997.  Created in the early 80s of the last century, the cycle consists of more than 40 canvases, each of which is a deep insight into poetry, revealing the essence of the images and thoughts of the legendary poet Taras Shevchenko. This is a dialogue across the centuries between two national geniuses, which is especially relevant in our dramatic time.

Most of the "Shevchenkiana" works are created using the grisaille technique, with the author employing a wide palette of shades of a single color. Only a few pieces are multicolored but with a very restrained color scheme.

The exhibition "Love Your Ukraine" by Ivan Marchuk will be opened at the National Museum "Kyiv Picture Gallery" in Kyiv in November and will last until the end of December 2023.

In connection with this event, a catalog of works from the creative cycle "Shevchenkiana" was published in Kyiv. It includes all 42 paintings of the artist, created based on the poetry of the outstanding Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. The circulation of the publication is 700 copies.
